The establishment will, among other objectives:
In its time-proven practical action-oriented interventions, the group has made advanced preparations and plans to invest in three key dairy value chain undertakings:
The Milk Chilling Plant, to be constructed in Muhoroni, is the first of its kind in Kisumu County and the wider Luo – Nyanza. OSIEPE Dairy Chilling Plant is a Muhoroni sub-County dairy facility dedicated to providing members and other suppliers with professional services and high quality milk cooling and marketing support. OSIEPE Dairy Chilling Plant is a group venture to be established under OSIEPE practical action value chain development commercial wing. The group’s hard work and dedication has proven to be successful, as OSIEPE is now one of the County dairy ready model. The future of OSIEPE Dairy Chilling Plant is looking bright with uptake of dairy and other value chains exponentially rising the wider Kisumu County. Our focus will be on market services to members and other farmers and to emphasize desire and reputation for quality and milk products. The proposed Hay Barn and Aggregation Go-Down is one of the initiatives to be undertaken to improve access to markets and benefit from economies of scale with respect to commercialisation of fodder. OSIEPE has recently expanded its value chain activities including fodder commercialisation and is well-positioned to market its services in the county beyond its present client base (members). Members of OSIEPE and other smallholders have decided to invest in dairy as core business and have been able to grow their dairy business to “the next level”. “We feel we are dairy ready having undergone different capacity building programs, renovated dairy housing, prepared substantial acreage under fodder and continue to make plans for a dairy chilling plant” – Mr Bernard Del, Coordinator. OSIEPE Hay Barn will be built at Awasi along Kisumu – Nairobi highway to strategically target ease of access to farmers, customers from other counties and connectivity for other services related to fodder and cereals aggregation. The central store will be dedicated to collecting, distributing, selling of hay as well as providing our customers with professional services and other feed inputs. The group has developed comprehensive business plans, secured land for each of the projects, raised initial capital for small scale start-up and is working on strategic partnerships for investments in the ventures going forward. Special attention is being paid to member income, job creation and involvement of the youth in line with the group's youth in agribusiness strategy |
