I was impressed by the use of local available simple materials. I have already built a poultry house which I will upgrade and I intend to put up dairy project”
MAMA CHRISTINE OYUKO of Amani Nucleus: “We saw evidence of a lot of food available in Bomet and I learnt that everything is important including grass. I learnt how to store maize stalk, make hay. I already bought 4 chicken to start my poultry project and I will start a hotel business”.
MR. LUKE ANYANG, Chairperson – Amani Nucleus: “The personalities that welcomed the group to Bomet were people of high status yet very humble. I saw a working governance system from the Governor to ward level. I was impressed by the farms being managed by women. I wish to encourage our members and the Luo community to change attitudes towards work and commercial farming. I already have an on-going dairy project. I will upgrade the housing and the dairy animals. I have already planted 32 grafted mango seedlings. I intend to buy fingerlings for my fish pond. I wish to be visited by farmers from Bomet to keep me on my toes”.
MR. BENARD DEL, the group coordinator: “I was impressed by the good teamwork at Exotic Hotel with a large number of county government executive leaders (Governor, CECs and other officers who met and welcomed us). I noted the humility and simplicity of the women with a lot of knowledge. It was an eye-opener to the community within OSIEPE area to take up projects that are profitable. I intend to buy high quality breeds of cattle. I already have the poultry project I added number of chicks after the trip. I am going to ensure the starting of a cooperative to market poultry products at Kopere. I urge members to prepare individual action plans be ready for collective marketing and bulking for more profits.
MR. LEO MEMBO of Amani Nucleus. “Although, I did not make the trip, I have been following the lessons learnt. I intend to visit Bomet on my own to learn more about the biogas plant. I am upgrading my local breeds. I have intention to start a biogas plant. We need to source for more technologies especially chaffer and cattle feed stores. I know dry food is the best for animals and we must have a veterinary officer attached to the group”.
MAMA JECINTA of Amani Nucleus: “I was impressed by the importance of biogas for domestic use and fodder/grass chaffers. I am already improving my local chicken project and I bought 8 chickens. I will construct a biogas plant even as I have started putting up dairy unit”.
MAMA ROSE WARIERO of Amani Nucleus: “Women are most active in development in Bomet. The animals are clean, healthy and well kept. Although the soils and vegetation in the area are similar to ours, the environment there is much better than in our area due to many enterprises and proper land use. I learnt new ideas about storage of cattle feeds. I have already constructed well for water supply and I plan to plant Napier grass before I buy dairy cattle to start the dairy project.
MR. SAMUEL OTOGO of Tiger Nucleus: “The trip was quite good and ideal for OSIEPE group. I put up a poultry house immediately and bought a number of chickens. I intend to build a cattle feed stores for my one dairy cattle. I hope to supply feeds to other farmers very soon”.
MRS. PAMELA OYANGE of Tiger Nucleus: “I thank the patron for the opportunity given to visit Bomet County. I intend to shoot a video in ITIGO Resort in Kisii for sales. My music career should blossom from there on”.
MR. BARRACK OWINGA of Tiger Nucleus: I was so impressed with the governance of Bomet County which demonstrated teamwork. The government officials are people with high humility and high standard of education. They are youthful and ready to solve the problems of the county and the people. The cooperative model works well. I intend to expand my water project through harvesting rain water and storing in water pans and tanks for agro-business. I will upgrade my current dairy unit and I plan to put up poultry houses for chickens”.
FLORENCE OWUOR of Tiger Nucleus: “I learnt the use of locally available materials to put up dairy and poultry structures. I was also impressed by simple and hardworking women of Kipsigis. I have already an o-going poultry project with 64 chickens and I intend to improve management and marketing for better income. I have 1 dairy cattle and I intend to buy a high quality one once I improve housing, secure feeding and gain training. I am serious with food security and in my store I have 8 bags of beans”.
MOSES ONYANGO of Tiger Nucleus: “I was impressed by the county’s strategic food storage. I will embark on projects as I have already bought land for projects and in the school we have Napier grass. I am looking for an in-calf heifer to purchase immediately. I challenge the group to supply the school with good quality local chicken as market and payment is guaranteed”.
MOLLY ACHIENG' of Tiger Nucleus: “I am very impressed with leadership in Bomet. I am planning to buy a dairy cow”
FRANCIS ONYALO of Tiger Nucleus: “After the trip, I have appreciated the business focus and change of mindset of the people of Bomet County. I am already starting to implement commercializing poultry in Menara with 45 birds already.”
LILIAN OGODO of Tiger Nucleus: “Trip was an exposure for the group and I was impressed by humility of the people of Bomet. I intend to buy plot for agribusiness, plant grass and sell in Nyakach and also develop a biogas plant for energy and domestic use.”
JANE MEMBO of Tiger Nucleus: “I did not make the trip but was impressed with the stories members are telling. Already I have a poultry project in Nairobi with 80 birds. I will get close to those who went to learn more. I will also improve my other agribusiness especially value addition and sale of nuts”.
BILDAD OGALO, the Chairperson of Alpha Nucleus: “I am impressed by the Bomet trip. I will strengthen my poultry project which is on-going and do rehabilitation using local materials. I am already bulking the potato tubers for future multiplication”.
LUCY DEL of Alpha Nucleus:“I was impressed with the trip. My poultry project is on and I have started potato bulking over this session”.
CHARLES OWITI of Alpha Nucleus: “I will upgrade my potatoes and poultry projects and will soon start dairy farming”.
PAMELA ONYANGO of Alpha Nucleus: “The trip was quite good and timely for OSIEPE group. The people of Bomet are very busy, focused and entrepreneurial. I already have a dairy project and I am preparing space for poultry house. I will engage in massive cattle feed production and storage. I was encouraged by the trip and will put more effort on my food security initiatives. Now I have about 8 acres of maize and beans in the farm.”
MARY OBURA of Alpha Nucleus: “I did not take part in the trip but I feel like I was there after listening to colleagues who went. I have on-going poultry project is on-going and I intend to cross my cattle to get improved breeds.
MR. ABUTO of Alpha Nucleus:“The trip was a real value chain development eye-opener for OSIEPE. I am embarking on commercial poultry and dairy projects”.
RACHEL ANYANG’ of Alpha Nucleus: “I was very impressed by the feeding trough for cattle and the apparent with good teamwork of Bomet people. I have a poultry project which I will revamp. I intend to buy high quality cock and more dairy cattle”.
MAMA PATRICIA NYINA of Nucleus: “I did not go to Bomet but I am indeed impressed by what other members saw. I will get in touch with the office and other members to see how I can implement the new ideas”.
HEZEKIA OMENDA the Chairman of OSIEPE and member of Alpha Nucleus: “The timing of the trip was important since the group should start developing the members. More trips will be planned for members in future to encourage the members to work harder. My dairy project is on-going. I am sinking a bore hole to provide permanent water for the livestock and I intend to intensify the poultry project starting with the existing poultry house. I will put up hay and store cattle feeds”.
